Celebrating Windrush Day with BBC - Black Firsts

2023 sees the 75th anniversary of the HMT Empire Windrush arriving in Britain. Supported by the likes of Tescos, England & Wales Cricket Board and TFL - Windrush Day is a commemoration in the United Kingdom held on 22 June to honour the contributions of migrants to the post-war economy. Specifically, it celebrates Afro-Caribbeans who began arriving on the HMT Empire Windrush in 1948.

Alicya Sinclair of Afro-Caribbean decent, highlights a key figure for this day. Her professor, trainer and Master Tailor- Professor Andrew Ramroop OBE.

The BBC profiles Professor Andrew Ramroop in a collection of series titled "Black First"A profile of the first black Savile Row trained tailor to grace the street. The story can be viewed on BBC iplayer.
